Body Composition Analysis is Here!
Curious – how do YOU inform your fitness progress?
Some people use the scale, some body measurements, others go by how much they can lift/how far they can walk, and still others like to go by how their clothing fits.
All of the above give variables that can be useful for tracking a single variable (weight, inches, pant size, etc), but they don’t give a complete picture of your overall body composition, which is made up of muscle, bone, fat, intracellular and extracellular water. This means that you are not getting a comprehensive explanation of exactly your weight/fat/muscle are distributed. Additionally, if you are actively participating in a weight loss/muscle gain program, it can be difficult to assess your progress.
This is where Body Composition Analysis can be extremely informative. Body composition analysis refers to measuring your body muscle, fat, and water. Instead of focusing on a single number on your scale, body composition analysis allows you to focus on losing body fat and gaining muscle while retaining the proper amount of body water in specific areas of your body. Body composition analysis is a key to tracking and maintaining effective weight loss.
Some of the parameters that are measured during an assessment include:
Sample InBody Results Sheet
.
Skeletal Muscle Mass
Skeletal Muscle Index (like BMI for muscle!)
Segmental Muscle Analysis (where exactly you have muscle and how much!)
Percent Body Fat and Body Fat Mass
Segmental Fat Analysis (where you carry your fat)
Whole Body Extracellular water/Total body water ratio
Phase Angle (an indicator of cellular health and cell membrane integrity)
Inflammation and Edema
Basal Metabolic Rate
Based on these parameters, information can be drawn relating to:
Weight
Fat percentage
Muscle mass percentage and change over time
Frailty and Osteoporosis risk
Sarcopenia risk (age related muscle loss)
Nutritional status
Total fitness score
Body Composition analysis is completely non-invasive and can be done as often as necessary/requested (every 2 weeks to every few months), depending on a person’s goals. Even better, the unit will produce progress charts for up to the last 5 readings so you can monitor your progress.
