Dr Yims Top Ten Weight Loss Tricks

Was your New Year’s resolution for 2025 to lose weight, get fit, and improve your health?  If it was, you’re not alone!  Most resolutions for the new year revolve around weight and health.   For good reason!  After all, good health is something we all want to hold on to.

Unfortunately, making the resolution is far easier than keeping it.  So here are Dr. Yim’s top ten tricks for attaining and maintaining healthy weight loss.

1. Start the morning with a good serving of protein like eggs, scrambled tofu, yogurt, cottage cheese, or a protein shake.  This will keep your blood sugar and energy level up through the morning so you won't crave carbs.  When you digest protein, your body actually uses more calories than just digesting carbs, so eating protein revs up the metabolism.

2. How many times have you heard that you need to drink water?  Not only does it help flush toxins released during weight loss but it also gives you the sensation of fullness, and it stimulates metabolism.  Try filling a couple of litre bottles with water and keep at least one with you at all times.  If it isn't disappearing quickly enough, pick up the pace and start drinking more.

3. Chew raw pumpkin or sunflower seeds if you need to crunch on something.  Not only are they loaded with zinc, essential oils, and anti-oxidants, but they also help balance blood sugar and decrease carbohydrate cravings.

4. Before starting your individualized diet plan make sure you take an hour or two to plan out your menus.  Studies have shown that planning meals ahead of time can help prevent last minute mistakes!

5. Eat salad after the main course.  Wait about 15 to 30 minutes after your meal and then eat your salad.  It will fool your body into thinking its getting dessert.

6. Keep a well-stocked larder of cut-up carrots and celery for a quick snack and if you don’t like your veggies try frozen blueberries or strawberries.

7. Go through your cupboards before starting your program and get rid of any temptations.  Not by eating them, but by giving them away to a local food bank.

8. Record everything that passes your lips.  Individuals who record their food intake have the greatest success in keeping off the pounds.

9. Find a planned movement program that fits your lifestyle and that is fun.  Playing rather than exercising will keep you more consistent.

10. Get a buddy!  Having a workout partner makes it so much more fun and changing lifestyles with a friend can be so supportive.  The encouragement you get from someone on the same journey as you will make the road much easier to travel.
